So You Want To Be A Top Affiliate On The Leaderboard?

Being a successful affiliate has its own rewards - big fat commission checks in your pocket so why would you care about an affiliate contest?  Isn’t it enough just to earn money for your hard work?

There are a couple reasons to try your hand at an affiliate contest:

1.  You get the satisfaction of beating others in a competition.  It gets you motivated and you decide to market the product every single successful way you can think of.

2.  You get to win cool prizes.  Every contest has prizes.  While some are money only, others also include some fab incentives like iPods, iPhones, flip video cameras, and more.

3.  If your name is among the top, you brand yourself as a power affiliate.  Other successful marketers see that and you will get some very beneficial JV offers coming your way.

So you might be wondering how to get there, especially if your list isn’t as big as you’d like it to be. When you first learn of an affiliate contest you’d like to enter, know that you’ll have to temporarily drop what you’re currently working on and come up with a game plan.

If the product creator has his act together, he will have affiliate tools set up and available for your use.  Grab your affiliate ID and take a good look at the emails, product reviews, and blog posts available to you.  You don’t want to use them word for word because that’s what everyone else does. You want your emails to stand out.

Next, come up with some bonuses to offer people who buy through your link.  They should be complimentary to the product and not totally unrelated.  Perhaps the product is about how to use PLR.  You can offer a package of PLR you have on hand, a coaching call, help implementing the product, one of your products free, or a discount to your membership site.  Set your bonuses up on a webpage all pretty-like.

Now rewrite or add to the product creator’s emails.  Take the message he or she wants to get across and put it in your own words.  Add your personality to it and tell some stories; like how long you’ve known the product owner and how he has helped you in the past with his products and they’ve added xxx to your bottom line, etc.  Have these written and ready to go:

* Pre-launch email letting your people know what’s coming.
* Email when the product is live.  Make sure sure you mention your bonuses.
* Put the product review on your site and let your list know about it.
* Send a time-sensitive email letting people know when the price is about to go up.

Even those with the big lists know they can’t just send out one email and expect to make it to the top of the leaderboard.  Look at the tools given to you, make a plan, get your emails written and ready to go, and have some fun with it.  Don’t be surprised if you end up on the board and winning some cool new toys.
